SHAH ALAM: An indipendent Press Council should be constructed for the freedom of the press and protection of media practitioners rights and securities.
Utusan Malaysia editor Datuk Mohd Zaini Hassan insisted that this Council would apply the check and balance for news report in the local mass media.
He said this during the Universiti Teknologi MARA's (UiTM) 24th colloquium on the criticism of the media themed "Journalism, Law and the Country" here today.
The colloquium which featured Mohd Zaini, International Islamic Univeristy, Malaysia law lecturer Prof Dr Abdul Aziz Bari and TV3 journalist and producer Razali Awang as the pannellist peeled the topic from different perspectives.
Dr Abdul Aziz expressed his worry upon the fairness for all sides in the community, and he hoped that the application should be free from any intervention including the authority.
Meanwhile Senior Reporter for TV3 under Media Prima Group Berhad, Razali Awang who first shared his experience being fought by the extreme political supporters hoped the Council would become true.
Being asked about whether the Council should be considered as 'royal', Razali cited that it should not meant for media to misuse the power given for them.
Instead, the council should be outlined of course by the media representatives, but certainly not all of them.
He who gave his full support for the Council believe that this Council could protect the welfare of the press and to keep on surviving the news ethics in reporting.

my comment: the Colloquium was of course a grateful success for us, but for the panelists, it was like a war between Dr Aziz and Datuk Zaini. Well. worth to be watched. A Law expertise vs a Media expertise. Again, who is true? Let the public & community decide. :)
Well, these are all the pixs taken by us during the colloquium.. hihi.. bukan slalu leh pakai korporat...so bgaya sakan ler...
