By Nor Hidayati Mokhtar SHAH ALAM: Awesome speech! 2011 would be noted as the premier year for UiTM staffs and students in achieving better performance for the next years to come.
Vice Chancellor for UiTM Yg Bhg Dato Prof Ir Dr Sahol Hamid bin Abu Bakar outlined quite a tremendous number of changes in putting UiTM in the top world stage.
Sensing the need to become Research University in order to reach World Class University, Sahol announced that Shah Alam main campus would gradually become the research based university, which means only Master and Ph.D level of program would be offered.
By doing this he aimed to claim the 'Royal University' status.
"To only focus on Master and Ph. D programs could neglect the teaching responsibility that we already uphold all along.
Thus hand in hand with the branch campuses getting autonomy to become the state campuses, these are the places for our nation to gain opportunity to study," he said.
According to him, the Ministry of Higher Education objected to change the university basic plan, concerned to the limited chances of students to further study in Diploma and Degree level.
"We would never be strayed from our goal to keep on helping the nation (anak bangsa) to study," he exclaimed.
Sahol in his speech also urged the Academic Affairs Department to come out with 200 new programs that are more futuristic in producing better graduates.
During the Amanat, Sahol also announced Vice Chancellor's Special Project (VCSP) and 1Malaysia Love Program.
VCSP is implemented to transform UiTM into a more outstanding university. Through this project, he outlined many steps in molding better UiTM on the world stage.
Among the steps are by introducing the UePMO to check on the projects, curving UiTM name as one of the top world class research university and to organize more on community program via the Student Affairs Department (HEP).
For the Love Program, the upcoming implementations are Sihat Bersama VC in UiTM Stadium and Watching 'Night' Movie with him in the new hall, both would be on Feb 17th, Wednesday.
P.S: well, i'm really touched when he stated that in Malaysia, there are only two IPTs. one is UiTM, the other one is, ETC. =). Bravo Dato!
